PARKnSHOP is pleased to launch today a new fund-raising campaign that will bring in significant donation to The Community Chest-backed projects helping disadvantaged Hong Kong people join the workforce.
The month-long campaign beginning this Friday (4 May) until 1 June will work three ways to build a lump sum that will go to The Community Chest member social welfare agencies for providing labour and employment services. These services support the low income groups and the unemployed through employment counseling services and skill training programmes which help them find suitable jobs that match their skills.
Cheung Kong Group, which is PARKnSHOP's parent company and has been supporting The Community Chest of Hong Kong for many years, set the ball running today with an initial donation of HK$100,000 (This equals the number of MoneyBack points awarded by PARKnSHOP every day, converted into cash.) Cheung Kong Group has also pledged to match, dollar for dollar, all contributions from PARKnSHOP customers throughout the campaign period.
To encourage customers to contribute more, PARKnSHOP is giving away hundreds of thousands of points of its highly successful customer rewards scheme, MoneyBack, to lucky and generous families.
The fund-raising campaign works like this:
1. |
All PARKnSHOP stores will be selling fund-raising raffle tickets at the checkout for $3 each, with proceeds going straight to 'Labour & Employment Services' supported by The Community Chest. Customers buying raffle tickets will be eligible for the lucky draw at the end of the campaign, with the first prize winner taking home one million MoneyBack points (value: HK$20,000), the second prize winner 800,000 points (value: HK$16,000), and the third prize winner 500,000 points (value: HK$10,000).
Since its launch in January, the Money Back rewards programme has attracted participation of more than 800,000 families. The programme gives cash back for points earned whenever customers shop at PARKnSHOP. |
2. | Cheung Kong Group will match all contributions made by PARKnSHOP customers, thus doubling the overall donation to the Community Chest. |
3. | To kick off the programme, the Cheung Kong Group today made an initial donation of $100,000 – an amount that is equivalent to the MoneyBack points awarded by PARKnSHOP each day. |
Speaking at the kick-off ceremony, Group Managing Director of A. S. Watson Mr Dominic Lai said Hong Kong was a city that was built on its people's can-do attitude, creativity and determination, and as a Hong Kong-based company, PARKnSHOP wanted to give something back to the community.
"Through this programme, we will be able to offer practical assistance to those people having difficulties to get their jobs.
"It is particularly meaningful helping people find their jobs, as this will enable them to support themselves, build their self-esteem and eventually push forward Hong Kong's economy," Mr Lai said.
Member agencies of The Community Chest of Hong Kong offer labour and employment services, including apprenticeship schemes, to equip job seekers the skills required for various industries. The Community Chest also funds a career centre to match job seekers with available vacancies, and provides special counsel and guidance services to job seekers aged 55 and over, and those who have just arrived from Mainland China.
Campaign Committee Co-Chairman of the Community Chest Mr Lawrence Yu thanked Cheung Kong Group and PARKnSHOP for their generosity, 'we appeal to Hong Kong people to contribute and to support this very worthy cause.'
