The Perfume Shop enjoys the sweet smell of sales success

Wednesday January 10th, 2007

The Perfume Shop is reporting a very strong Christmas further consolidating its position as the leading fragrance retailer in the UK.

The 5 week period ending 30th December saw a combined UK & Eire LFL of 10.2% with total growth up 21.6%.

The Perfume Shop, which sells through 142 stores in the UK, has opened 20 new outlets during 2006. A further three stores were re-sited to take advantage of higher footfall areas creating 3 new flagship stores in the Victoria Centre Nottingham, Meadowhall Shopping Centre Sheffield and Castle Mall Norwich. The Perfume Shop has also continued its European expansion and now trades through seven stores in Eire (trading under the name Perfume Direct). The Perfume Shop focuses on retailing within shopping centres and high footfall transport centres (such as train stations.) The Perfume Shop expects to open a similar number of new stores during 2007.

Online sales (www.theperfumeshop.com) were particularly strong during 2006 with turnover almost doubling at 94%. This followed investment within the eCommerce functionality of the website. Strong growth is further expected within 2007.

During the busy Christmas period, The Perfume Shop saw excellent trading. Unlike other retailers and footfall associations who reported their strongest day for sales as being Thursday 21st December, The Perfume Shop saw highest sales for the year on Saturday 23rd December.
