The Remarkable Rise of Hong Kong's "Mr. Gymnastics"

AS Watson Group Hong Kong Student Sports Awards (HKSSA) has played a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of athletic talent in Hong Kong. Shek Wai-hung, one of its past awardees, was inspired by HKSSA to pursue his sports dream.

Shek's journey with the HKSSA began in 2007 and 2008, and then he became a full-time gymnast. His dedication and determination soon paid off, as he was the first male gymnast to represent Hong Kong at the 2012 London Olympics. The pinnacle of Shek's career came in 2014 at the Incheon Asian Games. Competing in the vault final, Shek got the gold medal, becoming the first Hong Kong gymnast to achieve this feat at the Asian Games.

Along the way, Shek has faced multiple injuries. Yet, his unwavering dedication and has propelled him to overcome these obstacles, and he finally made it to the Olympics three times, each time showcasing his world-class talent. As Shek continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in gymnastics, his story serves as a powerful inspiration to countless young sports enthusiasts in Hong Kong and beyond.
